About Me
I am passionate about the enneagram. I was first introduced to it in 2009 and have deepened my learning since then. I’m a Certified Professional with the Chestnut Paes Academy and an Accredited Practitioner with iEQ9. I’m also a Certified Integral Master Coach ©. I’ve worked with individuals, teams, and whole companies with the commitment to walking alongside and challenging folks on their own path of growth. I tell my clients that I am compassionate sandpaper.
Prior to this work I was an Associate Professor in the Creative Arts Therapies Program at Concordia University in Montreal. And prior to that I was an Art and Play Therapist in pediatric oncology. I completed my PhD at Concordia with a focus on parental bereavement.
Throughout these distinct work chapters, my commitment to service has guided me towards these chapters. This next chapter is now including writing. I’m delighted you’ve come to this page and hope that the material is interesting, reflective, and encouraging. And, if you want to deepen your exploration through coaching leveraging the enneagram please use the ‘contact us’ link.
PersonalThe Enneagram has given me a deeper understanding of myself and how others experience me. Discovering my type and my instinct, was like turning on a light of self-awareness. I could see where my unconscious patterns and reactions were steering me through situations. For example, my default to action and taking control of situations was affecting my ability to relax and enjoy experiences. It was also depriving others of the ability to take ownership or action, whether it was my kids, friends or a work colleague. Once I identified these patterns and outcomes, I could start to change.
Suzy has been my coach through difficult personal loss and through complex professional challenges, and she has consistently shown up as a calm and steady guide. Tammy, HR Executive Working with Suzy has been one of the most meaningful personal growth experiences I’ve had. Through our work together and learning about the Enneagram, I gained a much deeper understanding of myself, my patterns, and the way I move through both life and leadership. Heather, Director or People Operations & Technology She helped me see not just what I was, but what I could grow myself to be, making me a better executive, husband, and father. Chris, Executive Suzy’s coaching has helped me with tactical day to day challengesSuzy’s coaching has helped me with tactical day to day challenges at work all the way to broad systemic problems in the teams I’ve worked with and led. The Enneagram as a framework for self awareness and relating to others through their types has unlocked a new level of teamwork across a variety of teams that I’ve worked with over the years. I’ve watched the people around me become more self aware, empathetic and whole human beings as they approach both life and work. Sarah, Sr Director My first team and I worked with Suzy on our Enneagram profiles as part of a broader team building effort. As a newly formed executive team with urgent needs to deliver, understanding each other was important to accelerating the formation of a team. I am a skeptic when it comes to personality profiles so I was wary of yet more pseudo science, having done many different personality profiles with teams in the past. I found Enneagram to be different. It provided insight that helped me better understand my own tendencies and the tendencies of my first team. I found that, when forming this team, the profiles helped in two key ways. First, they confirmed the early behaviors and approaches I had observed in my peers. Second, they allowed me to better understand and predict my peers’ reactions in the future. Understanding my peers’ reactions was particularly valuable when working with one of my peers that I struggled to engage with. His Enneagram profile was the polar opposite of mine. While I strove for controlling perfection and thought deeply about others, he was more comfortable letting things play out and was very individualistic. By understanding him via Enneagram, I was able to approach him in a manner that was more aligned with the way he thought and better understand his behaviors, which previously were completely foreign to me. This allowed us to work together to deliver key outcomes for the company, whereas we previously were almost entirely incompatible. Even in cases where we were strongly at odds and argued heavily, the perspective Enneagram gave me allowed me to put the disagreements in perspective. This kind of impact helped our first team come together far more quickly than it would have otherwise. Chris, Executive TeamWe have even built Enneagram awareness into our culture and onboarding because it has been so helpful for understanding how people work together. Pierce, CEO, Co-founder, Knak One clear example was a time that as a leadership team, we were assigning focus areas on a project, and it was clear that the Enthusiasts in our team would be more vocal with Helpers (me included) supporting, each adding their own value. The roles may have fallen that way without enneagram, but it helped to align us all around assignments. Roy, Shopify 2014-2022 As a skeptic of personality profiles, I was wary when our newly formed executive team brought in Suzy to work on our Enneagram profiles. However, the insights were immediate. It allowed us to decode completely foreign communication styles, transform a friction-filled peer relationship into an effective partnership, and accelerate our team’s cohesion to deliver key business outcomes. Chris, Executive Working with Suzy has been one of the most transformational experiences. She supported me through various promotions and career pivots that required deep personal growth. She was the perfect balance of being supportive and empathetic, while making sure that I was also seeing my blind spots and working towards my goals. Her expertise in the enneagram gave me a framework to understand when I was showing up at my best or worst, with practical tools and fieldwork to practice outside of our sessions. I couldn’t have asked for a better coach by my side. Konval, Shopify, Director Merchant Stories (Marketing), 2012-2021 What I appreciate most about Suzy is the way she guides this work with so much wisdom, care, and thoughtfulness. She creates a space where you feel genuinely seen and supported, while also helping you grow in ways that feel honest and lasting. Her approach is calm, intuitive, and deeply impactful. Heather, Director, People Operations & Technology Suzy’s coaching, leveraging my Enneagram profile, helped me understand and describe my mindset deeper than I ever had in the past. She helped me see not just what I was, but what I could grow myself to be. This allowed me to be a better executive, better husband, and better father. She also helped me understand how to focus more on myself and balance my perfectionism. This helped make the gains from our coaching sustainable and avoid burnout issues I encountered in the past. Chris, Executive Suzy’s wise and compassionate coaching style has unlocked so much of my own self awareness and growth over the years, both at work and at home. Because of my work with Suzy, I am better able to understand my reactions, be present in challenging situations and understand where others are coming from, making it far easier to solve problems and negotiate outcomes that everyone’s happy with. I would highly recommend Suzy to any team looking to unlock the next level of working together and any individual looking to supercharge their growth. Sarah, Sr Director SuzyI have appreciated that Suzy is direct, thoughtful, and practical. She does not just explain the Enneagram in theory. She helps me apply it to real situations I am dealing with as a CEO, husband, father, and leader. Pierce, CEO, Co-founder, Knak Coaching is not always comfortable. Sometimes it shows you things about yourself that are hard to accept. But if you are serious about becoming a better leader, spouse, parent, or person, it is one of the highest-leverage things you can do. For me, Enneagram coaching has been one of the best things I have done to improve my leadership. Pierce, CEO, Co-founder, Knak Suzy brought a practical mirror. She helped me see myself more clearly and gave me tools to show up better. Pierce, CEO, Co-founder, Knak Because of my work with Suzy, I show up more intentionally. Full stop. Krista, VP People Operations If you’re considering coaching, my only advice is: be ready to do the work. Suzy will show up for all of it. Krista, VP People Operations Suzy meets you exactly where you are, and then gently refuses to let you stay there. Krista, VP People Operations Suzy’s approach was especially successful because she combines deep knowledge and analytical abilities while being patient and compassionate. She holds a mirror to those who dare to see themselves. Frank, Director Talent Initiatives, Shopify Suzy was the most impactful coach I had in my career. She is a wonderful listener, and often could ask a tiny but powerful question that turned things right back on me for a decision moment. She helped me grow through understanding enneagram, and other broad dimensions of leadership and interpersonal dynamics. Because of my work with Suzy I was a better leader and helped those around me to develop further. Suzy consistently brought empathy, a keen ear, great questions, good advice and human care and compassion. Roy, Shopify 2014-2022 Suzy listens, helps me to contextualize the why behind my behaviours and feelings, and then asks simple questions to help me discover alternate outcomes to what auto-pilot would have produced. She offers me grace and understanding, while gently challenging me to adjust my thinking. Working with an Enneagram coach has been a true investment in myself and I’m certain I’m living a more conscious and engaged life because of the work I’ve done with Suzy Tammy, HR Executive EnneagramIt has made me a better leader and a better listener. Before learning about the Enneagram, I would often jump straight into problem-solving mode. If someone came to me with an issue, I would give them the answer. Now I am much more aware that my job is not always to solve the problem for them. Sometimes my job is to ask better questions, listen longer, and help them arrive at the answer themselves. Pierce, CEO, Co-founder Knak What sets the Enneagram apart is that it does not just describe behaviour. It gets underneath the behaviour and helps explain motivation, fear, stress patterns, and blind spots. Pierce, CEO, Co-founder, Knak What sets the Enneagram apart from other frameworks is its depth: it doesn’t just describe behaviour, it explains the motivation underneath it. That’s where real change becomes possible. Pierce, CEO, Co-founder, Knak What sets the Enneagram apart from other frameworks is its depth: it doesn’t just describe behaviour, it explains the motivation underneath it. That’s where real change becomes possible. Krista, VP People Operations Learning about my type helped me to stop masking and start living. Frank, Director Talent Initiatives, Shopify Compared to other personality models, enneagram has immense depth, but can be understood and remembered at least at a high level, partly because it is logical and intuitive. Roy, Shopify 2014-2022 What makes the Enneagram so powerful to me is that it goes far beyond surface-level personality traits. It helps uncover the deeper “why” behind behaviours, reactions, motivations, and relationship dynamics. I found it incredibly insightful and grounding, and it gave me language for things I had felt for years but could never fully explain. Heather, Director, People Operations & Technology What sets the Enneagram apart from other personality typing systems is that it’s so robust in it’s understanding of each type, with a subtype and wings you get a flavor for the type that’s so specific to you it’s almost eerie to read.
